What is the Social Information Office (BIS)?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is a free, no-appointment assistance service which helps people who are in a difficult financial, social or psychological situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It offers direct access to professionals (social workers, psychologists, jurists or other specialized workers) who provide information, identify the forms of help that people are entitled to, and direct them to useful services, all in complete confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It provides information and advice about a range of everyday issues: financial and debt problems, housing problems, health problems, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is the BIS for?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is available to all inhabitants of the Canton of Geneva, regardless of residence status or place of residence within the canton.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When is the Social Information Office open?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and every Thursday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry is free of charge and no appointment is necessary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

  • Identifying the kinds of social benefits that could be given<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Directing people to government departments that provide welfare benefits<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Giving information about existing forms of community assistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Preliminary analysis with a view to making an application<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Providing legal advice and information about tenants\u2019 rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Support, listening and counselling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Only if they agree, people can allow access to their personal data for the purposes of following up their personal situation more effectively and establishing whether a benefit can be applied for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
